Kappa Alpha Psi honors Meekins, James, Warren, and Mayfield

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Jeremy Meekins, Ashley James, Glennard Warren, and T.J. Mayfield were honored Saturday by the Vicksburg Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The group was recognized during the chapter’s Celebration of Achievement ceremony.

James received the Excellence in Education Award. She currently serves as principal at Warrenton Elementary School.

Her career in education began in 2008 at Vicksburg Intermediate School. She later became lead teacher at Warrenton, where she played a key role in raising the school’s performance rating from an “F” to a “B.” She was subsequently promoted to assistant principal at Warren Central Intermediate, where she helped improve the school’s rating from an “F” to a “C.”

James is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and is the mother of two children, Ashton and Aubrey.

Meekins received the Community Service Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service and achievement.

He is known for organizing the annual Celebrity Basketball Game and Back-to-School Drive, which has provided thousands of backpacks and school supplies to children in Vicksburg and surrounding areas. For the past nine years, his organization has distributed more than 1,000 backpacks each year.

Meekins is a graduate of Vicksburg High School and currently works in real estate in Georgia.

T.J. Mayfield

Mayfield was presented with the Public Service Award. A former educator in the Vicksburg Warren School District, Mayfield created several youth-focused programs, including Gentlemen of Intelligence, Valor, and Excellence; the Gator Career Closet; and Razor-Sharp Reading.

He later became the youngest executive director of the Mississippi Kidney Foundation. On May 30, 2024, Mayfield won a special election to fill the unexpired term of his late father, Alderman Michael Mayfield Sr. He was sworn into office on June 19, 2024.

Mayfield is running unopposed in this year’s municipal election, marking his first full term.

Glennard M. Warren

Warren received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of decades of service and dedication to the fraternity.

A native of Vicksburg, Warren graduated from Alcorn State University in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He earned a master’s degree in environmental science in 2000 from Jackson State University. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 38 years, serving as a chemist, program manager, and project manager.

Warren, a 1985 initiate of the Jackson Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, has received numerous honors for his fraternity service. In 1987, he played a key role in chartering the Vicksburg Alumni Chapter.
