Warren Central cheerleaders bid farewell to longtime coach Coon

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School cheerleaders are sending a heartfelt farewell to head coach Cameron Coon, who recently resigned after five years leading the program. Under her leadership, the team experienced consistent growth and success.
“I’m going to miss my girls a lot because I’ve developed very good relationships with them and their families,” Coon said. “I know everything about them. I know what makes them sick, I know what makes them mad, I know they’re having a good or bad day. I was worried that whoever came wasn’t going to be able to develop those kind of relationships with them, however they have the best person for the job and I’m going to help her anyway I can. I couldn’t have handpicked a better coach for them.”
During her tenure, participation in the program grew steadily. Coon helped the team qualify for Nationals three times, most recently in 2024 when they finished ninth in the nation. She also coached multiple All-Americans, with several athletes moving on to college programs, including her daughter, Payton Feagin, who now cheers at the University of South Alabama.
Before officially stepping down, Coon named Kaylee Doyle, Mia Grace Owen, Addilyn Wilson, McKinley Phillips and Sydney Sullivan as captains for the 2025 football season.
“I’m going to miss Coach Coon so much because she’s a great leader and she became a second mom to me because she’s taught me so much on the sidelines and in life,” Phillips said.
The junior class, who have been with Coon since beginning their varsity careers, shared similar emotions.
“Coach Coon is like my favorite person in the whole world so her not being here is going to be hard, but I’m sure we’ll make some memories with our new coach as well,” junior Maddie Kay Snow said.
Sophomores also expressed their appreciation.
“I love her so much and she’s my favorite person ever and it’s not going to be the same without her,” Kauri Sanders said.
Coon is handing the program to a new coach who will be announced Sunday.
“She’s going to be able to show them how the recruitment process goes and she’s young and great so I’m excited for the program’s future,” Coon said.
Despite her resignation, the program became a better team because of her leadership and values. She has not publicly announced her next move, but her coaching legacy will live on through the many athletes she mentored over the years.
