Vicksburg native Destiny Mayfield awarded prestigious UNCF Capstone Scholarship
VICKSBURG, Miss. (Alcorn State)— Destiny Mayfield, a Vicksburg, Miss., native and 2025 graduate of Alcorn’s biology pre-professional (Pre-Med) program, has been named a recipient of the prestigious 2025 UNCF Achievement Capstone Scholarship. Mayfield, who received the faculty-nominated award as an Alcorn senior, is currently pursuing a Master’s of Medical Science at Mississippi College, and is recognized for her high academic achievement and commitment to advancing patient care.
The 2025 UNCF Achievement Capstone Scholarship is a highly selective, faculty-nominated award intended for high-achieving African American college seniors who are on track to graduate. The program recognizes recipients for their academic excellence and leadership, specifically honoring the legacy of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The one-time award, ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, helps recipients address educational costs and support future educational expenses.
Mayfield expressed deep appreciation for the support as she pursues advanced training. “I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious scholarship, which will significantly support my academic development,” said Mayfield. “This generous investment not only alleviates financial burden but also empowers me to pursue the rigorous training necessary for a career dedicated to advancing patient care and medical innovation.”
Beyond the financial award, UNCF Achievement Capstone Program recipients also gain access to important benefits, including peer networking and expanded opportunities for graduate school, professional school, and career advancement.
