VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Madison Spencer, a Vicksburg native, has signed a collegiate softball scholarship to play at Hinds Community College. The St. Aloysius standout made everything official Wednesday when she signed her letter of intent during a ceremony held at The Sandlot.

“I’m super excited and incredibly thankful,” Spencer said. “I feel truly blessed for this opportunity.”

After visiting Hinds during her recruitment process, Spencer quickly realized it was the right fit. She committed the same day, describing the campus as a place that “felt like home.”

In 2023, as a sophomore at St. Aloysius, Spencer stepped into stardom. Primarily a catcher, she also proved to be a force at the plate. She helped lead the Lady Flashes to a 15–9 record—their first winning season in nearly a decade—and finished the season with a .364 batting average, 20 hits and 11 RBIs.

She elevated her performance in 2024, posting a .426 batting average with 29 hits and 19 RBIs.

The 2025 season marked a particularly meaningful chapter, as Spencer served as catcher for her younger sister, Mallory. Ending her varsity career catching for her sister became one of Madison’s most cherished memories.

“It was incredibly special, something not many people get to experience,” she said. “We went from practicing together to competing together, and it brought us even closer.”

Spencer opened her senior year with a milestone, hitting her first varsity home run against Tallulah Academy. She called it her favorite moment because it happened on the same field where she hit her first career home run in practice. She went on to finish her senior campaign with a .358 batting average, 24 hits and 20 RBIs.

As her varsity career came to a close, Spencer reflected on the work that brought her to signing day.

“For six years, I’ve put in countless hours—late nights on the field, early mornings for practices, camps and games,” she said. “Softball has been my life, and I love pushing myself. You get out of this sport what you put into it.”

Spencer played under Head Coach Mike Foley throughout her varsity years, and now she prepares for the next chapter as a college athlete.

“I’m so excited, and some days it still doesn’t feel real,” she said. “I’m already putting in the work and can’t wait to keep growing, meet new people and make lifelong memories.”

As she moves on to the next phase of her playing career, Spencer made sure to thank those who supported her journey. She said she put her faith in her swing and worked to leave the program better than she found it.

“I want to thank my dad for all the time, miles and sacrifices he’s made. My mom for always being my biggest cheerleader. I’m grateful for my sister for motivating me, and Wesley for supporting me and showing me what hard work looks like. I also want to thank Coach Rosie and Coach Darius for shaping me into the player and person I am. And thank you to my family, past and current coaches, and everyone who’s been part of my journey. Most importantly, I thank God for His guidance. None of this would be possible without Him. I give all the glory and honor to Him.”
