WESSON, Miss. (VDN)Warren Central High School’s girls’ basketball team picked up a key road victory Saturday, defeating Bay Springs High School 45-39 in a nonconference matchup held at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The game marked the Lady Vikes’ return to action following the Christmas break.

Warren Central set the tone early, jumping out to a 17-9 lead by the end of the first quarter behind strong defensive pressure and balanced scoring. The pace slowed considerably in the second quarter as both teams struggled to find open looks, combining for just five points in a defensive battle. Despite the low-scoring stretch, the Lady Vikes maintained control and carried a 20-11 advantage into halftime.

Bay Springs attempted to rally in the second half, but Warren Central’s ability to rebound and convert key possessions helped keep the Lady Vikes in front. Camara Evans was named Player of the Game after leading Warren Central with nine points and four rebounds while providing steady leadership throughout the contest.

Arrionna Jenkins and Keasia Williams each finished with six points and pulled down seven rebounds apiece, helping limit second-chance opportunities for Bay Springs. Ka’Ryn Henderson contributed seven points and nine rebounds, while Ana Bridges added five points. Kylee Chambers, Shaniya Lewis and Madison Ward each scored four points, with Ward also collecting a team-high 10 rebounds.

Warren Central’s defensive effort proved to be the difference, as the Lady Vikes held Bay Springs under 40 points and made timely plays down the stretch to secure the six-point victory.
