WC shutout Canton; Flashes defeat PCA

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central’s soccer teams delivered dominant performances Friday night, recording shutout victories against Canton, while St. Aloysius’ boys’ team rolled past Porter’s Chapel Academy in a 9-1 win.

The Warren Central girls were in complete control from start to finish in their shutout of Canton. Jordan Polk dominated with four goals as well as Brooke Steed who added four goals of her own. Allie Mason and Avery Hern each scored twice, and single goals were added by Addi Mullen, Cora Lindsay, Mary Clell Allred, Kalista Butler and Emily Grace Godshaw to cap a balanced scoring effort. Warren Central also moved the ball efficiently, as assists came from Mullen, Polk, who finished with two assists, Kylie Hearn with three assists, Allred and Olivia Lee, who recorded two assists.

The Warren Central boys followed with a 7-0 shutout win. Jonah Artman and Jacob Porter each scored two goals, while Nick Lee, Luke Bond and Reed McClurg each found the net once. Goalkeeper Anthony Streif recorded three saves to preserve the clean sheet, with additional saves credited to McClurg and Artman, along with one save by Eriam Diaz-Mejias. Bond also added an assist in the victory.

At St. Aloysius, the Flashes’ boys’ team defeated Porter’s Chapel Academy 9-1. Jack Dickerson led the way with six goals, while Clay Pierce scored twice and Henry Bell added one. Carson Hays scored the lone goal for PCA. The game was tied 1-1 early and stood at 3-1 at halftime before St. Aloysius exploded for six goals in a 20-minute stretch in the second half.

“After having our players focus on finishing, we put six goals in 20 minutes to close out the game,” St. Aloysius head coach Gio Baldizon said, while also crediting PCA for making defensive adjustments in the first half.
