James Powell makes University of Oklahoma co-ed cheer team

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — James Powell, a Vicksburg native, has earned a spot on the co-ed cheerleading team at the University of Oklahoma.

Powell secured his place on the roster after attending in-person tryouts a few weeks ago, where he was selected as a base and tumbler for the Fall 2026 team.

Last year, Powell became a national champion at Northwest Mississippi Community College, helping his team win the UCA College Nationals. He served as a base on the co-ed squad.

Powell is currently a student at the University of Mississippi. He is a graduate of St. Aloysius, where he was named Team MVP and received the Team Leadership Award.
