Lady Vikes claim Region 2-6A title; Boys finish in fifth place
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Warren Central High School girls’ track and field team delivered a dominant performance to capture the Region 2-6A championship, finishing with nine first-place finishes. The Vikings’ boys team placed fifth overall in the meet.
The Lady Vikes were led by Madison Ward, who earned multiple top finishes. Ward placed first in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 2.25 inches and won the triple jump at 35-3. She also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 16.38 seconds(1st).
Kayla Parson claimed first place in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6 minutes, 28.79 seconds and also ran the 800 meters in 2:53.36. Abigail DeJesus added another gold medal in the 3,200 meters, finishing in 15:44.22.
Arrionna Jenkins swept the throwing events, winning the discus with a throw of 115-11 and taking first place in the shot put at 35-6.
Mere Smith secured a second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.73 seconds. Sydney Davenport placed second in the 100 meters at 12.87 and took third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.15, while Ka’Ryn Henderson finished third in the 100 meters at 12.90.
Elizabeth Winters placed fourth in the 3,200 meters, and Mary Austen Bullen earned fourth place in the 800 meters.
Warren Central also found success in relay events. The 4×100-meter relay team took first place with a time of 50.81 seconds, while the 4×200-meter relay team finished first in 1:46.31. The 4×800-meter relay team placed third with a time of 11:44.01.
