Arrionna Jenkins claims two North State titles; multiple athletes advance to state
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Arrionna Jenkins captured two North State championships Thursday night, winning both the shot put and discus to lead Warren Central High School’s girls track team.
Jenkins secured the shot put title with a throw of 37 feet, 1 inch and claimed the discus crown with a mark of 112-3. With the performance, she advances to the state meet in pursuit of a championship.
Warren Central’s girls team finished fourth overall.
Madison Ward placed second in the 100 meters and third in the long jump, while Ka’Ryn Henderson took third in the 100. Sydney Davenport added a fourth-place finish in the 100.
The 4×200-meter relay team finished second.
Mere Smith earned a second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
On the boys side, Will Bates broke his own school record in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10 minutes, 39.18 seconds. Mitchell Lewis placed third in the 110-meter hurdles, and Edward Mazie finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
The state meet is scheduled for May 2.
