Corinth High School Softball Star Killed in a Car Crash on Monday
CORINTH, Miss. – A Corinth High School softball star, killed in a car crash on Monday, has been identified as 17-year-old Callie Pounders.
Corinth High School Principal John Barnett announced the death on social media but didn’t go into details on where the accident occurred.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you that one of our students, Callie Pounders, was killed this morning in a car accident. We are heartbroken by this loss, and we grieve with the student’s family and friends.”
“We will have counselors available in the Commons to help our students and staff today and the remainder of the week. In times like these, we must continue to come together and support each other as the Corinth community. At this time, we are respecting the family’s privacy and their time to grieve. If there is something we can do to assist the family as a community, we will communicate that information to you.”
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and will make every effort to continue to look after and care for one another.”
Pounders was a star softball player who helped CHS to a 24-6 record last season along with a state championship. Back in May, she threw her 200th strikeout in the 2024 season. She also had a scholarship offer to Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Callie’s Obituary:
Callie was a senior at Corinth High School. At Corinth High School, Callie led her school and her class capably and in many ways. She served as president for the class of 2025, was the C-Club sweetheart during the 2024 Corinth Homecoming and was a competitor and leader in Corinth Warrior athletics. Having never met a stranger, Callie was a friend to anyone who crossed her path in school or in life. She valued teamwork, serving others and representing Corinth and Corinth High School well in all that she did. Callie was a leader. She always had a well thought out plan and was the person her friends relied on to get things done. She was the “mother hen”. Throughout her athletic career at CHS she served as captain of CHS softball, volleyball and powerlifting teams where she received numerous awards and was a member of the 2024 5A Softball State Champion team and was 2024 5A Powerlifting State Champion in her class.
Callie was larger than life, and cannot be captured in words. She loved the Lord, and she loved her friends and family. She modeled her life after her life verses Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” and Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is with you, the mighty warrior who saves; He will take great delight in you; He will quiet you with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing.” Her warm and compassionate spirit drew others close to her, and she was blessed with a community of friends who loved her. She knew that her actions mattered, and she wanted to be remembered as someone who cared deeply for others. Callie carried herself humbly and was quick to encourage those around her.
A memorial service in celebration of Callie’s life will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church. The service will be lived streamed at the Corinth High School gymnasium for students and overflow seating. The Rev. Waring Porter and Gregg Parker will be officiating. Following the service, the family will welcome friends at a reception at The Standard, located at 700 Tate St, Corinth MS.
