Board of Mayor and Alderman Meeting June 10, 2024

The Vicksburg City Council held it’s meeting this morning.

Alderman Monsour thanked the city employees for their quick response to calls and requests over the Miss Mississippi Pageant last week.

Mayor Flaggs called the the Miss Mississippi Pageant 2024 a success.

The local emergency curfew for Minors will remain in effect. Police Chief Penny Jones stated that the measure was working in spite of numerous shootings and a murder in the past month.

Jeff Richardson, the Community Development Director, reported on properties that were out of compliance with the city’s codes and ordinances

  • 503 Bowmar Avenue – Property Cleanup/Demolition not complied
  • 1617 Crawford Street – Property Cleanup/Demolition not complied
  • 1619 Crawford Street – Property Cleanup/Demolition not complied
  • 502 Fairground Street – Property Cleanup not complied
  • 519 Fairground Street – Property Cleanup complied
  • 1600 Lane Street – Property Cleanup/Demolition not complied
  • PPIN 015370 – Property Cleanup/Demolition not complied
  • Roosevelt Ave – PPIN 013069 – Property Cleanup/Demolition not complied

Three of the properties were given a 60 day extension with 30 days to report progress: 503 Bowmar Avenue, and 1617 & 1619 Crawford. The city is demanding property owners comply with the city’s codes and ordinances by the allotted time or they will be forced to demolish the property, and it will be filed as a lien on their property taxes.
