Meet the Valedictorian: Lauren Harmon of RCEC

Just last month, Lauren Harmon reached an accomplishment of a lifetime as she represented River City Early College as the 2024 Class Valedictorian.
As an elementary student, Harmon recalls always making good grades and never in her life making a “B” during her academic career.
“It was really in middle school when I realized that grades mattered and that’s when I started putting in true effort with my grades,” Harmon said.
By the time her freshman year rolled around, Lauren’s mother advised her to do her best so that she could receive multiple scholarships. Over the next few years, Harmon held up her end of the deal and finished out strong.
Towards the end of the 2024 school year, Lauren was doing an elementary school walk-through when she received the call from her senior advisor that she was being named valedictorian. She finished her senior year with 82 college credits earned, an associate’s degree, and a 5.283 grade point average.
“It’s a big sigh of relief because I dedicated so many hours of work to earn this title so it’s so fulfilling,” Harmon said.
Harmon noted that her parents, friends, and educators like Mrs.Camille Buxton and Mr. Jerry Neal Price kept her motivated throughout high school where she was a part of the robotics team, key club, and many more service organizations.
Harmon plans to major in civil engineering and she will be attending Louisiana Tech University. She also plans on pursuing a master’s degree.
Lauren is the daughter of Steve and Tammy Harmon.
