VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Brick Street opened on March 11, 2024, and recently celebrated its first full year in business. The brainchild of Angela Wright Neilson and her husband Mark, the restaurant is the realization of a long-time dream for the couple after three years of hard work to get the space ready for business.

“We spent three years getting the building ready. We’d save up a little money, fix something, and then save up some money to fix something else,” said Neilson. “Mark jokes that it is our vacation home.”

Since opening they’ve expanded the offering to include a banquet room, a mini-bar and a patio with a stunning view of the river.

Brick Street offers sandwiches, po’boys, flatbread, salads, soups, homemade desserts, and sides.

“The Philly Cheesesteak, the French Dip, the Muffaletta seem to be the most popular but we sell such a wide variety. It’s hard to say which is the most popular,” said Neilson.

Neilson has been running businesses in downtown Vicksburg most of her adult life, starting at Duff Green when the Sharp family owned the historic building.

“I started at Duff Green when Harry Sharp owned it. After that, I worked at the Quarter when that was down there. I ran the bar at the Biscuit Company, I started 1311 and later sold it, and I ran the Warehouse for Robert Ware, the whole property, hotel, and all. In one capacity or another, I’ve run the whole block,” Neilson then joked, “I’ve gone from the 1300 block to the 1100 block.”

She met her husband Mark during her time at the Biscuit Company.

“I trained him on how to be a bartender.” Mark is best known for being the bartender at 10 South Rooftop Bar and Grill. “He went from the Biscuit company to 10 South when it first opened. He is the original bartender there.”

Brick Street opens from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday for brunch. They open at 11 a.m. the rest of the week and close at 8 p.m. except on Friday and Saturday when they close at 9 p.m.
