VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps has been recognized for 25 years of service with the city of Vicksburg. He was recognized earlier this week at the Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting, where he received a certificate representing his hard work.

“The city of Vicksburg does present the certificate of appreciation to Derrick Stamps for 25 years of dedicated service,” Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said.

Stamps began his career with the Vicksburg Fire Department in the Year 2000 and worked his way up through the ranks over the years.

Stamps officially took over as Fire Chief in 2022 after the retirement of former Chief Craig Danczyk. He was initially recommended for the Chief position in 2013 but didn’t officially earn the title until nearly a decade later.

When first appointed, Stamps was full of excitement as he patiently waited for his time.

“I was excited, I think it was a long time coming, I believe God has plans and it was just in God’s timing,” he said.

Stamps received his Bachelor of Science from Waldorf University, majoring in Fire Science Administration. He received his professional degree from the United States Fire Administration. Stamps prides himself on being visible and accessible to the citizens and visitors of Vicksburg, MS.
