VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) – Alderwoman Vickie Bailey visited Bowmar Elementary School on Tuesday, speaking to kindergarten students as part of the school’s Community Helpers Week.

The weeklong program, held Sept. 15–19, introduced students to city employees and departments that serve the Vicksburg community. Representatives from the Vicksburg Fire Department, Ambulance Services, Police Department, Public Works Sewer Crew, City Clerk’s Office and Vicksburg Media VTV joined Bailey to share their work with students.

Children had the chance to meet the city’s workers, ask questions and view equipment used to keep the community running. Bailey said the event highlighted the importance of civic engagement and showcased the many ways city employees support residents.

“It was truly an amazing honor and privilege to speak with our future leaders of Vicksburg,” Bailey said. “This event gave students a chance to not only learn about community helpers but to see them in action. I am so proud of the dedicated men and women who serve our city every day.”

Bailey also thanked kindergarten teacher Savannah Skipper and principal Jason Bennett for the invitation to participate. She commended their efforts to provide meaningful, real-world learning experiences for students.

Community Helpers Week concluded with lessons designed to show students the value of teamwork and service in building a safe, thriving community.
