VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Friends, family and fellow first responders will gather Saturday, Aug. 16, to celebrate what would have been the 28th birthday of Vicksburg firefighter and paramedic Jarod K. Squire, honoring his life with the things he loved most — being active, spending time with family, and friendly competition.

Squire, who died in 2023, will be remembered with a community kickball game at Ford-Yates Park, 1330 Realty St., starting at 5:30 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Food and beverages will be available while supplies last, and guests are encouraged to bring tents and lawn chairs.

Kickball team captains include Jarod’s cousin, Len Sims, founder of the ISO Youth Basketball Team, and Minister Courtney Reed, one of Squire’s mentors and a training officer at the Vicksburg Fire Department. Reed also owns Fix Fitness and serves as a director of I Can Fly Ministry.

This event is free and open to the public.
