D’Marious Hicks named defensive coordinator at Port Gibson High School
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
D’Marious Hicks has been named defensive coordinator at Port Gibson High School after the Claiborne County School Board recently certified his selection.
“First, I want to thank God,” Hicks said. “I’m very excited about this opportunity. It’s a big deal for me and my family, but overall I’m just excited to be in this new role with this team.”
Hicks served as the Blue Waves’ defensive backs coach last season, helping lead a secondary that recorded four interceptions and multiple pass breakups.

A 2019 Port Gibson graduate, Hicks is no stranger to the program. He starred at quarterback and wide receiver during his playing days and put together one of the most memorable seasons in school history as a junior in 2017. That year, he helped lead the Blue Waves to a 10-4 record while throwing for 800 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,087 yards and 11 scores.
After high school, Hicks signed with Alcorn State University, where he played defensive back. With his playing career now behind him, he has shifted his focus to coaching and developing the next generation of athletes.
As Port Gibson continues summer workouts, Hicks said his goals include improving the team’s defensive performance through better tackling, stronger fundamentals and creating more opportunities for players to gain exposure from college recruiters.

Hicks will serve under head coach Harry Brown as the Blue Waves prepare for the start of the 2026 season in August.
