Doreatha Hyland Calvin: 4/6/1936 – 11/7/2023

Mrs. Doreatha Hyland Calvin was born April 6, 1936 to the late Rev. Ray and Beulah (Madea) Hyland. God said, “It’s time to rest my child” and called His angel home. She attended school in Sharkey County and learned to play the piano at the age of 12. In 1956, Mrs. Doreatha Hyland and Eddie Rock Calvin, Sr., became one through Holy Matrimony. They shared a great life together full of love and laughter. Doreatha accepted Christ at the age of 12 and later became an active member of Rose Hill M.B. Church where she proudly played the piano there for several years. She worked as a chef, waitress, and caregiver.

Doreatha was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Rock Calvin, Sr., mother, Beulah W. Hyland; father, Ray Hyland; two daughters, Juanita Fults Wyatt, and Shirley Ann Hyland-Parson; step-daughter, Mary B. Fountain; three grandsons, Johnny Dwight Hyland, Kenneth Earl Fults, and Michael Earl Jackson.

She leaves to treasure and cherish her sweet memory: three daughters, Bernice James, Mary E. Elder, and Hope M. Smith (Charles); four sons, Henry Lee Hyland (Diane), Eddie Calvin, Jr. (Mary), Cleveland McCoy Calvin (Alicia) Vicksburg, MS, and Edmond Leon Calvin (Cynthia), of Clilnon, MS, all of Vicksburg, MS; grandkids, Tamiko Wright, Richard Hyland, Henry Hyland, Jr., Derrick Hyland, Monique Hyland, Alexis Hyland, Helenna Johnson, Stephanie R. Calvin, Nickoli T. James, Clifford Phillips, Toni Williams, Antonio Calvin, Anna McCoy, Gregory Wilson, Angela Hodge, Theresa Wilson, Charmaine L. Hardy, Ray Calvin, Derrick Calvin, Demond L. Calvin, Deshawn S. Calvin, Priscilla Moore, Slyvia Davenport, Wanda Henyard, Kevin M. Calvin, Kenny Ray Calvin, Brandon K. Starr, Chloe M. Calvin, Edwin J. Gaskin, Kia Brown, Brandon M. Calvin, Jennifer Mertel, LaKendra Smith, Chavez Smith, Tredarius Smith; 66 great-grands, and 24 great-great grands; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Doreatha Hyland Calvin on November 18, 2023, 11:00 AM at Greater Grove Street M. B. Church, 2715 Alcorn Dr., Vicksburg, MS.

Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Services, 4310 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS on November 17, 2023 from 1:00 – 6:00 PM with family present from 5:00 – 6:00 PM.

Doreatha Hyland Calvin transitioned on November 7, 2023 at the age of 87.
