Eagle Lake’s Dale Maxwell has passed

EAGLE LAKE, Miss. (VDN) — Dale Maxwell, 88, owner of Maxwell’s Landing, died overnight.
Maxwell lived at Eagle Lake most of his life, and Maxwell’s Landing has been an integral part of the community for decades. The business, which includes a convenience store, boat landing, RV park, and rental housing, is the longest continually operated establishment on Eagle Lake and one of the oldest in Warren County.
During many of Eagle Lake’s floods, residents could count on Maxwell to provide milk, bread and groceries. Even when delivery trucks could no longer reach the area, he and his family made supply runs to sustain the community.

“He helped a lot of people over the years,” said longtime friend Earl Wallace. “During the 2019 backwater flood, Dale provided ice, money, fuel—whatever we needed to help with flood control. He was always a person you could count on and just a good man.”
“I’ve known the family most of my life, and as a child, I remember the store,” said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace. “Mr. Maxwell loved his country and his community and was dedicated to the people of Eagle Lake. I’ve known Mr. Maxwell and the Maxwell family most of my life. He was a well-respected businessman and a good friend. He will be missed.”
His son, Roderick, took over the day-to-day operations of the store a couple of years ago and will continue the family business.
