Emily Godshaw signs to Meridian CC
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central High School soccer standout Emily Godshaw made her college decision official Friday, signing a scholarship to continue her career at Meridian Community College.
A signing ceremony was held in her honor at Warren Central High School, where teammates, friends, family members and coaches gathered to celebrate the milestone.
“I’m so excited and words cannot express this feeling,” Godshaw said.
Godshaw said her decision became clear after attending a camp at MCC, where she felt at home and confident about her future.
A center back for the Vikings, Godshaw played a key role in helping Warren Central reach the North State round for three consecutive seasons. This year, the Vikings advanced to the North State championship game under head coach Jeremy Lawrence.
“Going that far made us feel so accomplished and it’s rewarding to go that far,” she said.
Godshaw finished her senior season with three goals while anchoring the defense and helping lead the program to multiple winning seasons. She said her most memorable match came in a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Saltillo in the North State championship.
“The adrenaline was crazy, but I gave my blood, sweat and tears in that game,” Godshaw said.
Soccer has been part of Godshaw’s life since she was 6 years old. She began playing in Hattiesburg before moving to Vicksburg in the seventh grade. Since then, she has been a proud member of the Warren Central soccer family.
While the victories and postseason runs stand out, Godshaw said the moments shared with teammates meant even more.
“Anytime we were on the bus we were just goofing off and having fun, so I’ll always remember that,” she said.
Godshaw credited her success to hard work and faith, along with the people who supported her journey.
“I want to thank God first, then my family and friends for always supporting me,” she said.
At Meridian Community College, Godshaw plans to major in business. She is the daughter of Michael and Charlsie Godshaw and leaves Warren Central with a legacy of dedication and leadership.
