ERDC ends holiday tradition ‘ERDC Under Lights,’ shifts focus to year-round outreach
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center announced today that its annual holiday event, ERDC Under Lights, will not return this season. The decision comes as part of a refocused effort to stay engaged with the community throughout the year, as well as ongoing security considerations.
“ERDC Under Lights has been an incredible way to connect with our community,” said Mary Margaret Edney, ERDC Public Affairs Chief. “While it will be missed, our mission and resources call us to think beyond this one event. As we look toward the future, we saw an opportunity to make an even greater impact by being present and engaged with the Vicksburg community in every season, not just during the holidays.”
Beginning this October, ERDC will roll out a new community outreach strategy that will feature events and initiatives across the calendar, including STEM initiatives for all ages, participation in civic and veterans’ events, volunteer service projects and more.
“Our mission is dedicated to solving the toughest challenges facing our nation, but we’re also committed to being good neighbors and making a difference here at home,” Edney said. “We are investing in programs that not only share our work and support education, but build connections across Vicksburg and beyond.”
