Fatal Shooting in Edwards: Victim Dies in Targeted Attack

A person shot in what appears to be a targeted attack while a back seat passenger in a vehicle has died.
Edwards Police Chief Terence Crump said, “We believe it happened on Willie V. Crump Lane about 11 o’clock last night. We were notified once the victim was driven to Merit Health in Vicksburg.”
Chief Crump said, “What we were able to find out is that it started in the county (Hinds) and bled over into the corporate limits of Edwards. The vehicle that the victim was in was driving along Willie V. Crump Lane when three black males, dressed in all black, opened fire on the vehicle.”

“He was struck one time, transported to the hospital and they pronounced him dead,” said Chief Crump. No one else in the vehicle was reported to have been struck by bullets
Dead of one gunshot wound to the right torso, is D’Aaron Kortez Carter, 21.
Sheriff Martin Pace said, “At about 11:30 last night we were advised by Vicksburg Warren 911 that they had received a call from the emergency department at River Region that there was a private vehicle that arrived at the ER with a gunshot victim. Units responded to the ER. When we interview the individuals that brought the subject in it was quickly determined that this incident occured in Edwards. We secured the vehicle and it’s contents in the parking lot and notified Edwards Police Department. I spoke to Chief Crump and Lt. A.B. Roper.”
The vehicle was turned over to the Edwards PD.
