Fire at Foam Packaging on 61 South
There was a warehouse fire at Foam Packaging on 61 South.
Just before 2 a.m., units with the Vicksburg Fire Department were dispatched to Foam Packaging on 61 South in Vicksburg. The caller reported a fire in the warehouse with smoke and flames visible.
The first unit to arrive, Ladder 15, reported smoke was visible. Upon entering the building they discovered flames in the back section of the plant. They located a couple of pallets, approximately 12 feet in height, loaded with plastic containers. They appeared to be burning from the top of the containers.
Ladder 15, Engine 7, Engine 8 and Rescue arrived to assist along with Battalion 1, Henry Williams, and Fire Medic 80. Initially, there appeared to be two lines run into the building to fight the fire. After about 45 minutes an additional line was charged and employed to fight the fire.
“The crews worked tirelessly (using over 50 SCBA bottles) and a lot of man hours to extinguish the fire,” said Chief Derrick Stamps.
The Vicksburg Daily News filed this live report from the fire:
From the roadway, the amount of smoke coming out of the structure could be observed to wane and then enlarged several times. Firefighters fought the fire for over an hour before the amount of smoke coming from the structure was minimized.
All the employees were safely evacuated from the structure and there are no reported injuries associated with the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
