Fire on Mundy

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A single family structure was damaged by fire and smoke this morning on Mundy Street in Vicksburg.
At about 6:30 a.m., heavy smoke was reported in the area of Mundy and Adams Streets in Vicksburg. The first unit on scene reported the home at 1110 Mundy was the source of the heavy smoke in the area. Engine 6 was the first fire truck to make the scene and ran a line to the structure.
Deputy Fire Chief Courtney Reed was at the scene, “It looks like it possibly had some squatters in what is possibly an abandoned building. My crews went in on the “B” side of the building, made an interior attack, breached the ceiling, breached the roof, and put the fire out.”
Firefighters then worked to clear the structure of smoke and do an overhaul of the structure to ensure there are no hot spots that could reignite. They will then begin an investigation into the cause of the fire.

There was no one in the structure when units arrived. “It looks like it’s abandoned and there are no injuries on the inside or the civilian side,” said Chief Reed. You can watch our live report from the scene by clicking this link.
Engine 6, Engine 7, Platform, and Battalion 1, Henry Williams were all at the scene, along with a fire medic unit and numerous Vicksburg Police units.
