Forfeit pushes Gators into baseball playoffs as No. 4 seed

JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — Heavy rain led to a forfeit by the Columbus High School baseball team, moving Vicksburg High School to the No. 4 seed.
The Gators traveled to Ridgeland on Tuesday night to face Columbus, but weather-related field conditions forced the game to be moved to Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.
At Smith-Wills, VHS and CHS waited for the weather to clear ahead of the district game, which would determine who advanced to the playoffs. After a two-hour delay, the Falcons forfeited to the Gators.
The win by forfeit brings the Gators’ record to 7-20 under head coach Brandon Kincaid. The teams last met in early April, when VHS won 12-2. Allan Allen struck out seven batters in that game, while Kaleb Doss and K. Cartwright each had two hits.
Vicksburg will face Saltillo in the first round of the playoffs, traveling for Game 1 on Friday. The Gators will host Game 2 on Saturday, and if a third game is necessary, it will be played at Saltillo on Monday.
