Harvey and Johnson Received All-District Player of the Year Honors

Vicksburg, Miss.-Vicksburg High School girls’ basketball team came up short in the district championship against Callaway in a 61-38 loss. Despite the loss, two of the Missy Gators received high honors at the district tournament.

Zion Harvey and Cynia Johnson both walked away with prestigious awards last night. Harvey was named All-District Offensive Player of the Year. She averaged 20.6 points per game in the tournament and her best performance was against Warren Central where she put up 27 points.

Johnson was named All-District Defensive Player of the Year. She averaged nearly 10 rebounds per game during the tournament while also putting up 11.6 points per game as well in the tournament. Her best game was also against Warren Central where she put up 18 points and seven rebounds. 

Both Zion and Cynia are committed to Holmes Community College for next season.

Last night, Callaway defeated VHS which put the Missy Gators in the second seed. Harvey led with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Johnson grabbed 10 to go with her six points while Jordan Grace scored four points and Jada Erwin added three points and five rebounds. Zion Knox and Carjessa Albert both scored two points each while Raylyn Parson and Madisyn Kimble both hit a free throw.

Although VHS loss to Callaway, they still managed to pull off big wins in the district tournament over Warren Central and Neshoba Central.

The Missy Gators are set to face Center Hill in the first round of the state tournament on Friday.
