Story from MSU Athletics:
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama –
Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard set a State program record and claimed his fifth SEC Freshman of the Week honor of the 2023-24 season announced Monday by the conference office.

For Hubbard, he surpassed the previous mark set by Jamon Gordon, who was a four-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection in 2005-06.

Hubbard posted 18.5 points and 1.5 assists per game as the Maroon and White pushed the SEC’s longest active winning streak to five games. He exploded for a season’s best 32 points at LSU, the most points for a State player under Coach Jans.

The 32 points are the second-most points scored by SEC freshman this season, and the most points scored by a State true freshman dating back to another 32-point effort courtesy of Raymond Brown in 1984-85.

Hubbard tallied 19 of his 32 points and drained five of his season’s best six three-pointers after halftime. For the season, Hubbard is the only SEC true freshman and is tied for second nationally with 7 games of 20-plus points this season.

For the season, Hubbard has racked up 412 points, which is fifth-most for a State freshman through 27 games and the most since Rickey Brown (1976-77). He has amassed 22 games in double figures and drained 76 of his 128 field goals from three-point territory.

The Bulldogs welcome No. 16 Kentucky for an ESPN Super Tuesday showcase matchup in-front of an anticipated sold-out Humphrey Coliseum. Tip time is on-tap for 6 p.m. CT, and the game also will be available online courtesy of the ESPN app.

Mississippi State is selling single-game tickets for its remaining home games, fans are encouraged to visit www.HailState.com/Tickets for more information.
