Lady Vikes made a comeback to secure a 4-3 win over Germantown
Warren Central High School’s softball team orchestrated a remarkable comeback against Germantown to secure a 4-3 victory.
The Lady Mavericks took the lead in the third inning when Lindley smashed a double, bringing in two crucial runs. Despite a slow start at bat, the Lady Vikes finally got on the scoreboard with a single by Makayla Jackson,
cutting the lead to 2-0.
Germantown added another run in the fourth inning, extending their lead to 3-0 and appearing to dominate the game. However, Warren Central rallied in the sixth inning, sparked by a hit from Jenn Smith. Maddy Pant’s powerful hit followed, putting the Lady
Vikes on the scoreboard. Moments later, MK Ferguson delivered a clutch two-run single, leveling the score at 3-3.
In the seventh inning, the Lady Vikes swiftly retired Germantown, seizing the opportunity to bat. Jenn Smith’s double set the tone, while Pant received an intentional walk. Kamryn
Morson sacrificed, advancing the runners to second and third base. A wild pitch prompted Smith to dash home, securing the decisive run that sealed the hard-fought victory.
“I knew my team depended on me to score so all that was on my mind was to run now and celebrate later,” Smith said.
Smith boasted a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, supported by Pant (1 RBI), Jackson, Tyra Bridges, and Ferguson(2 RBIs) with one hit each in the triumph. Pant struck out seven batters.
Warren Central (6-2) is scheduled to host Pearl on Thursday for their upcoming game.
