Human Remains Identified in Flowood Lake Case
Flowood, MS – The Flowood Police Department has confirmed the identity of human remains discovered by fishermen at a lake in Flowood on May 5, 2024.
After an extensive forensic follow-up investigation by Rankin County Coroner David Ruth, the remains have been identified as those of 53-year-old Stephen Jason Rosa of Ridgeland, Mississippi.
Ridgeland Police Department had been conducting an active missing persons investigation on Mr. Rosa since he was last seen alive on November 23, 2023.
Following the discovery, the remains were sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for preliminary examination. To further assist with identification, forensic specialists transferred the remains to Othram DNA Lab in The Woodlands, Texas. Advanced DNA testing and forensic genealogy analysis conducted by Othram led to the positive identification of Mr. Rosa.
The Flowood Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr. Rosa’s death. At this time, no further details are available, but authorities are committed to determining the events leading to his death. Stephen Jason Rosa was reported missing by a family member. He was last heard from on November 23, 2023.
His last known address is in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Mr. Rosa is a white male, 53 years of age, approximately 5’7” tall, weighing approximately 145 pounds. Mr. Rosa is homeless and may frequent homeless shelters in the Jackson, Mississippi area. Family members say he suffers from a medical condition that may impair his
judgment.
