Code Red is dead; Sign-up now for the New Hyper-Reach Alert System

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A new emergency alert system called Hyper-Reach was introduced to Vicksburg and Warren County residents during a meeting Tuesday at the Warren County Courthouse.
Emergency Management Director John Elfer and Bill Ford, an IT specialist with the City of Vicksburg, presented details about the system, which was adopted in March and will replace the Code Red system by May.
Hyper-Reach is designed to provide residents with real-time emergency notifications, including severe weather warnings, road closures, and other critical information. The system is address-based, meaning residents will only receive alerts relevant to their location.
“This system is a modern, efficient tool designed to keep our community safe and informed,” Elfer said. “For example, someone living near Eagle Lake won’t receive an alert for severe weather in the southern part of the county.”
Ford said the new system will save taxpayers more than $100,000 over five years.

Residents can sign up for alerts for severe weather, road closures, criminal activity, public health alerts, and other emergencies through separate portals for the city and the county. Registration links and a QR code are available through official channels. For assistance, city residents can call 601-429-0444, and county residents can call 601-429-2029.
