Jacob Porter: Soccer Player of the Year

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
Jacob Porter continues to raise the standard for Warren Central soccer, turning years of hard work into another unforgettable season on the field. With every goal scored and every win earned, Porter has become the heartbeat of a Vikings program that continues to climb among Mississippi’s best.

After a standout junior campaign, Porter has been named the Vicksburg Daily News 2025-26 Boys’ Soccer Player of the Year for the second straight season.
Porter finished the year with 27 goals and seven assists while helping guide Warren Central to its third consecutive North State Championship appearance. His ability to lead both offensively and emotionally helped fuel a Vikings team that finished 18-5-1 under Head Coach Greg Head.
“I felt like this season really went great, but we didn’t get to state and that’s what we wanted to do, but overall everything was great,” Porter said.
Even with another impressive statistical season, Porter said the team’s postseason success and continued growth stood out more than any personal achievement.
“We were competitive in the years before, but we’ve never been this far and we’re now competitive enough to win a state championship,” he said.
Porter’s rise has been built on consistency and dedication. Long before the season began, he spent countless hours training year-round to sharpen his skills and prepare for another deep playoff run. That work showed throughout the season as he delivered multiple signature performances, including hat tricks against Canton and Neshoba Central.
Warren Central may have fallen short of a district title, but the Vikings proved they belonged among the state’s top programs with key victories over Olive Branch and Saltillo. Porter remained at the center of that success, constantly creating scoring opportunities and setting the tone for his teammates.
As his high school career continues, Porter’s impact reaches beyond goals and accolades. His commitment to improvement and desire to push Warren Central to new heights have helped transform the Vikings into perennial contenders.
“I want to thank God and everyone on my team,” Porter said. “My parents, coaches and trainers have been phenomenal.”
