Lacey adds Brandon Boone to the VHS Coaching Staff

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg High School head football coach Christopher Lacey has added Brandon Boone to his staff. Boone will be both the team’s passing-game and special teams coordinator for the upcoming season.
“He’s a great coach and we’ve worked together in the past,” Lacey said. “You try to hire people smarter than you, and he has a great history of coaching quarterbacks, so it’s good to have him back. The kids love him.”
Boone, a Clinton, Mississippi, native, comes to VHS after serving as offensive coordinator at Terry High School last season. The Bulldogs averaged 26.7 points per game under his play-calling and advanced to the first round of the playoffs.
Boone’s hiring marks his second stint at VHS; he previously worked as the Gators’ quarterbacks coach from 2014 to 2019.
“I do believe that God places you where he wants you to be, so I called Coach Lacey to see if he needed me, and within 48 hours, it was a done deal,” Boone said. “To say I’m excited is an understatement, but I’m happy to be back, and I’ve been welcomed here better than any place I’ve been.”
During Boone’s first stint at VHS, he helped develop several quarterbacks including Marquez Pickett, Joe Johnson and Levi Wyatt, who all went on to play college football. He also coached Tyrese Wolfe and Paul Wilson, who are current members of the Gators’ staff.
“The fact that the kids already know that there’s respect toward me from them, and the way Coach Lacey has treated me and given me this opportunity, just makes me feel blessed,” Boone added.
Boone began his coaching career over a decade ago at Tri-County Academy, where he helped win a state title. He has also held coaching positions at Forest, Crystal Springs, Terry and Vicksburg. At VHS, he served under head coaches Marcus Rogers, Lorenzo Breland, Tim Hughes and now Christopher Lacey.
Before coaching, Boone played quarterback at Clinton High School. He went on to play at Mississippi College and Hinds Community College before a career-ending injury.
Now back at VHS with 13 years of coaching experience, Boone said he is ready to contribute to the program.
“I just want to help the team become better, and Vicksburg has always had athletes, so I’m happy to have the privilege to coach these guys,” he said.
