Story from UWA Athletics:
Livingston, Ala – After leading the University of West Alabama Football team to their thrilling 35-33 double overtime win over 12th ranked West Florida this past Saturday, Defensive Back Lamar Gray and Kicker Elijah Guyton were named the GSC Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week on Monday.

Gray picks up his first GSC Weekly award of the season after putting together a statline of 4.0 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and two interceptions in the Tigers’ two-point win. Gray recorded his first two interceptions of the season, with the first one coming in the first play of the second half and the second one coming in the fourth quarter when West Florida threatened to take their first lead of the game. Along with his two picks, the DB was stellar in coverage all night as Gray and his fellow Defensive Backs helped hold UWF’s Marcus Stokes to 13-31 (29.5 percent completion percentage) through the air.

Guyton has been solid all season for the Tigers and that continued on Saturday as the redshirt sophomore buried two field goals, making him a perfect 10-10 on the year. The Kicker put through field goals from 29 and 21 yards, which propelled him to his second GSC Weekly award in the first four weeks of the 2024 campaign.

Gray, Guyton, and UWA now turn their attention towards #3 Valdosta State as they make the six hour trip to South Georgia on Saturday for a highly anticipated GSC matchup.
