VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Lauren Flagg concluded her high school journey as Co-Valedictorian of the Vicksburg High School Class of 2025. She celebrated the milestone last week during the school’s graduation ceremony, where she addressed her classmates before they were officially declared graduates.

“I feel accomplished because this is a goal I set for myself a long time ago,” Flagg said. “When Dr. Allen called me with the news, I cried tears of joy.”

Flagg maintained strong academic performance from an early age, though she acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic posed challenges. During that period, her grades briefly dipped, but she quickly recovered and ultimately graduated with an impressive 4.37 GPA.

Her journey toward becoming valedictorian began in ninth grade.

“The whole COVID thing really shook me up, so I started creating vision boards each year,” she said. “I put on my board that I wanted to be valedictorian in 2025.”

Flagg remained active in a number of school organizations, including serving as cheer captain and participating in Key Club, National Technical Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Student Ambassador program.

Despite her busy schedule, Flagg credited her mother with keeping her motivated and focused.

“Most of the time, she didn’t have to say much because I was afraid of failure,” Flagg said. “But there were times she would check in just to make sure my grades were where they needed to be.”

Before receiving her diploma, Flagg delivered a speech focused on goal-setting. She expressed gratitude to her support system.

“I want to thank my mom, my cheer sisters, my church family and my class,” she said.

Flagg is the daughter of Rhondilyn Nix and Johnny Flagg Jr. She plans to attend Jackson State University, where she will major in journalism and media studies with a concentration in sports media.
