Marcus Rogers resigns as Head Coach of Holmes County Central
LEXINGTON, Miss. (VDN) — Marcus Rogers, the former Vicksburg High School football coach, has resigned as head coach at Holmes County Central High School. Rogers announced his decision in a Facebook post Friday morning.
“Where do I start! It’s been a good ride for sure; filled with a lot of highs and very few lows. 24 years of Coaching,” Rogers wrote. “It started at JSU for 2 years, Riverview, Fairley, Wooddale, Murrah, Vicksburg, and my last 8 in Holmes County.”
Rogers reflected on his career and impact on players during his tenure.
“We won a lot of games over the years, I assisted in getting over 175 young men in college, but most importantly I assisted all my parents in the maturation, growth, and development in our young men,” he said.
As he transitions fully into administration, Rogers expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career.
“As I completely transition to administration; it’s a couple people I want to thank. 1st and foremost Kala Rogers,” he wrote. “The numerous amount of times that you went to work to get off and take all 3 kids to multiple sports practices, school functions, trips, all while still maintaining the house was nothing short of amazing.”
He also thanked his coaching staffs, administrators and the Holmes County community.
“Lastly, Holmes County yall welcomed me with open arms Jason Young Antwayn Patrick Dr. Meeks, Mr. Lacey; when I took over the program it was 1-10,” Rogers wrote. “We went on to Win 71 games to only 29 losses, 8 straight playoff seasons and 1 North State runner-up, 4 State Quarterfinals.”
Rogers said he is confident in the program’s future.
“I can truly say that I’m leaving the program better than I found it,” he said. “With that being said, it’s time for a fresh face for our program. Today, I’m officially stepping down as Head Coach and will continue to be Assistant Principal and District Athletic Director.”
Rogers finished his tenure at Holmes County Central with his best season in 2025, when the Jaguars went 10-4 and advanced to the semifinals. Before taking over the Jaguars, he led Vicksburg High School for three seasons. In his final year with the Gators in 2016, Rogers guided the team to a 9-4 record.
