VHS defeated Florence 69-39; WC and PCA took losses

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — The Vicksburg High School boys’ basketball team earned a decisive 69-39 victory over Florence High School on Tuesday night, taking a 35-20 lead into halftime and pulling away in the second half.

Jaquez Jones led Vicksburg with 20 points, while Marlyn Foy added 16. Jadarius Henderson finished with 13 points. Daquan Warfield scored six points, Jaquez Marshall and Jayden Stewart added four points each, and Jordan Clay and La’Brone Chiplin chipped in three points apiece. Florence was led by Kayne Ashley, who scored 21 points.

The Vicksburg High School girls’ team suffered a 63-19 loss. Zion Knox led the Missy Gators with eight points, followed by Aaliyah Mims with four. Nykeria Watson scored three points, while Jada Erwin and Nakia Jeffers added two points each.

In other action, the Warren Central boys’ basketball team dropped a narrow 56-55 decision to Neshoba Central. Deric Gibbs paced the Vikings with 18 points, and Davon O’Neal added 15. Robert Williams scored seven points, Micah Moore had six, Nash Morgan finished with five, and Landon Burks added four.

Warren Central’s junior varsity team earned a 55-35 win. Javen Lee led the way with 12 points, followed by Trystan Fuller with 10 and Jordan Pugh with eight. Cam Walker scored seven points, Joshua Porter had six, Jaylen DeFrance added four, and Jordan Taylor, Kylan Randle and Avery Williams each scored two points.

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s girls’ and boys’ teams both suffered losses to Newton Academy. The PCA girls fell 48-11, led by Brooklyn DeRossette with five points, Lexi Whittington with four and Michaela Chambliss with two.

The PCA boys lost 71-40 despite a strong performance from Schaffer Bell, who scored 34 points. Auston Moore added four points, and Grayson Price scored two.

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s junior high girls earned a win, led by Marley Busby with 12 points. DeRossette added six points, and Lauren Rae Davis finished with two.
