COVID-19
Mississippi COVID-19 cases now number more than 1,000; Warren County reports two cases

The number of COVID-19 cases in Mississippi increased by 136 overnight, and another two deaths have been attributed to the virus.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reports the number of COVID-19 cases is 1,073 with 22 deaths as of March 31 at 6 p.m.
Warren County is now reporting two coronavirus cases. Neighboring Issaquena County still has not reported any cases, while Claiborne County is reporting one case. Yazoo County has reported nine cases, and Hinds County leads the state with 109 cases. None of these counties have reported any deaths.
Thirty-one percent of all cases in Mississippi have required hospitalization.
Lauderdale County, which is under a shelter-in-place order from Gov. Tate Reeves, has reported 39 cases.
Several long-term care facilities are under investigation around the state, including in Warren County. Nursing homes in particular are considered high-risk locations because residents are older or in poor health. Even one case in a long-term care facility is considered an outbreak. The following counties have facilities under investigation: Amite, Bolivar, Jackson, Lauderdale, Smith, Tunica and Warren.
The MSDH Public Health Laboratory has performed 4,785 tests to date, with 451 positive results. Outside labs are also testing; however, those numbers have not been released by MSDH although their positive results are included in the state’s totals.
About 45 people were tested in the one-day testing site in Vicksburg on March 31. It is highly unlikely that results from those tests are in the state’s totals, yet.
Anyone with symptoms of fever, severe cough or severe chest pains – especially those who are older or in poor health – should call their doctor or healthcare provider for instructions on safely being examined. Healthcare providers can assess your health history and symptoms, and perform testing for COVID-19 as needed.
