Missy Gators basketball team secured a 58-17 district win over WC

Vicksburg, Miss.-Vicksburg High School girls’ basketball team earned a district win over crosstown rivals Warren Central on Friday night. The Missy Gators quickly secured the 58-17 victory as they improved to 10-4 under Head Coach Troy Stewart.

“It’s a district game and rivalry game so you always enjoy those types of wins,” Stewart said. “We’re completely focused on district right now and going to continue to play hard going into next week.”

Zion Harvey got hot from the 3-point line in the first quarter as well as Jada Erwin who knocked one down as VHS went up 18-9. Camara Evans and Madison Ward we’re responsible for all of WC’s first-quarter points. The Missy Gators didn’t allow the Lady Vikes to score at all in the second quarter while Harvey sprayed two more 3-pointers and Cynia Johnson stepped up and scored nine points in the quarter alone. VHS went into halftime up 35-9.

Erwin and Jordan Grace both popped 3-pointers coming out of halftime while Carjessa Albert came away with a few layups. Keasia Williams and Kylee Chambers both knocked down shots for WC but VHS maintained a 43-13 lead going into the final quarter. 

By the time the fourth quarter rolled around a running clock was enforced as the Missy Gators came out on top.

Harvey finished with 21 points and Johnson added 20. Albert and Erwin both scored six points and Grace came away with five on the board.

Evans scored five for WC and Ward put up four. Destiney Lisenbee hit a 3-pointer while Chambers and Williams had two points each.
