Vicksburg, Miss.-Warren Central High School boys’ basketball team pulled off a thrilling victory in the final seconds against Vicksburg High on Friday night. The Vikings were able to earn the 50-46 district win in the final seconds as senior Larry Reynolds Jr. came away with the successful layup.

“There has been a lot of talk in the community, but I told my guys don’t listen to that and play your game,” WC Head Coach Keith Williams said. “A lot of people think we don’t play basketball here at Warren Central, but I still have to give it up to the man above and this couldn’t have happened without my assistant coaches.”

The game was tied at 9-9 in the first quarter as Jaylon Winters hit three 3-pointers for WC while Jaquez Jones and Jadarius Henderson got VHS on the board. The Vikings focused on sharing the ball in the second quarter as Nash Morgan, Roosevelt Harris Jr., and Robert Williams all collected points but VHS took the 24-21 lead at halftime after Jones took control of things.

Late in the second half the game remained tight but WC’s Deric Gibbs hit a floater to tie the game at 43-43. Marlyn Foy became instrumental for VHS at the free throw line in the second half but after Reynolds’ key layup, WC came out with the win.

Winters led with 11 points and Caleb Lane put up eight. Micah Moore and Harris both scored seven points each while Gibbs added six and Reynolds finished with five.

Jones led VHS with 13 points while Jaquez Marshall and Henderson both scored eight points each. Mincer Minor IV had six points and Foy finished with five.
