RIDGELAND, Miss. (VDN) — Hits, hits, and more hits is how the Vicksburg High School softball team put the game away in a district win against Ridgeland. The Missy Gators won 20-8 over the Lady Titans as they finished with a total of 17 hits.

Senior Zion Harvey became a huge contributor in the win after hitting a 3-run homerun.

“That was the first home run of the season and I got plenty of more in my system,” Harvey said.

VHS took a 5-0 first-inning lead after RBIs from Avery VanNorman, Zion Harvey, and Madisyn Kimble. Harmony Harris also smashed a 2-run double just before Lili Kistler scored on a passed ball. Trinity McGloster and Kistler hit singles in the opening inning.

After singles from McGloster and VanNorman in the second, Harvey nailed a 3-run homerun to put the Missy Gators up 9-0. In the fourth inning, Harvey hit a triple and gave VHS their tenth run after a steal at home. The Lady Titans earned three runs in the fourth after a double and a walk to put the score at 10-3.

After a few hiccups, VHS got back on track in the sixth, beginning when Harris hit a ground ball and was able to make it home. Camden McGloster, Kimble, Trinity, Kistler, MaKynzie Dunmore, and Shandrea Lockridge all had hits in the inning. Harvey and Kistler both stole bases at home just before Kimble hit an RBI that gave VHS a 20-3 lead.
