VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg High School baseball team are keeping their playoff hopes alive after defeating Columbus 12-2 on Tuesday night. Two huge innings where the Gators scored a combined 10 runs in the first and seventh, sealed the win.

“Total domination, that’s the only way to describe last night.” VHS Head Coach Brandon Kincaid said. “Our guys showed up locked in and never let up. Defensively, we were sharp all game long. Offensively, we kept the pressure on from the first pitch, executing and attacking every chance we got. And a huge shoutout to our pitcher, who threw a complete game and set the tone from the mound – absolute dominance.”

VHS scored their first five runs in the opening inning when Seven West walked and Mickell Jones was hit by a pitch. K Cartwright hit a 2-run single and Jones scored off a passed ball to give the Gators a 5-0 lead.

By the end of the fifth, VHS had a 7-1 lead after West and Cartwright both hit RBIs. Peyton Calvin and were both hit by pitches in the seventh while Simpson and Jones both hit RBIs and Doss earned a walk.

Cartwright(3 RBIs) and Doss(2 RBIs) both went 2 for 4 at the plate while West, Calvin(1 RBI), Jones(1 RBI), and Simpson(1 RBI) all had one hit.

Allan Allen struck out seven batters in the win.

VHS will travel to play Yazoo County on Thursday and will be back at home for Columbus on Friday.

“Thursday’s game at Trustmark Park will be a great experience under the lights, but let’s be clear – Friday is the one that counts,” said Coach Kincaid. “Vicksburg, we need YOU! Friday is a BLACKOUT game. Show up in black or Vicksburg gear and help us create a playoff atmosphere. Pack the stands, bring the energy, and let’s push these boys into the postseason. This is our moment. Let’s make it count!”
