Missy Gators defeated Yazoo County at their annual cancer strikeout tournament
Vicksburg High School softball team hosted their annual Cancer Strikeout Tournament on Saturday where they picked up a win over Yazoo County.
“We did excellent,” VHS Head Coach Briana Knox said. “We batted around and made some base hits along with Trinity’s home run but we’re doing better and making process.”
The Lady Panthers got on the board first from a single as they went up 1-0 in the first inning. Harmony Harris hit a double in the second inning which was followed by a single from Camden McGloster that tied the score at one. With the bases full, Trinity McGloster hit her second grand slam of the season to give the Missy Gators the 5-1 lead.
After JaMia Grace hit a double in the third along with a single from Lili Kistler, Avery VanNorman, Harris(double) and Camden McGloster all picked up RBIs to put the score at 10-1 by the end of the third.
Yazoo County earned four runs between the fourth and fifth inning. Trinity McGloster hit the final RBI for VHS as they took home the 11-5 win.
Camden(2 RBIs),Trinity(5 RBIs),VanNorman(1 RBI) and JaMia Grace all had two hits. Kistler and MaKynzie Dunmore each had one hit.
The Missy Gators took a close 8-7 loss in game two against Brookhaven.
The Panthers picked up three runs in the first inning but the Missy Gators responded with two of their own after a double by Grace and an RBI from Harris. Trinity McGloster hit a double to bring in a run but VHS trailed 5-4.
After a hit by Amari Johnson in the fourth along with a successful bunt from Jordan Powell, the Missy Gators took a 6-5 lead. Grace, VanNorman and Harmony Harris all grabbed hits in the fourth but Brookhaven eventually pulled out the 8-7 win.
The Missy Gators will travel to play Germantown on Monday.
“We have to play our same game going into next week and play defense and get them while we can,” Knox added.
