Mound Welcome Center and Rest Area in Madison Parish to undergo renovations
MONROE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is kicking off a project to provide a variety of improvements to the Mound Rest Area & Welcome Center along I-20 westbound near the state line in Madison Parish.
The $22 million project includes several renovations that will improve the experience for visitors to who stop by the facility.
The building itself will be renovated with new wood, brick veneer, and masonry work, as well as new bathroom facilities. There will be updated landscaping, irrigation, a new water distribution and sanitary sewer system, along with expanded parking areas, pavement repairs and new striping and roadway markings.
The project also includes an updated CCTV system, electrical components and facility lighting, plus drainage improvements around the site. Work also calls for the removal and replacement of the existing pavilions.
The Welcome Center is currently open, but visitors should expect intermittent closures as a result of construction. There is also limited parking at the facility at this time.
The entire project is anticipated to be complete in early 2026, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
Rest areas and welcome centers serve an important function in providing a safe place for motorists to stop, access restrooms, and take a much-needed break from travel.
These facilities also offer visitors an opportunity to learn more about the region, and appreciate local landscapes and scenery.
