ITTA BENA, Miss. (MVSU Athletics) — Mississippi Valley State University Athletics has announced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2025 women’s soccer season due to unforeseen health and safety concerns within the program.

The decision, effective immediately, was made in consultation with university leadership and medical staff and in accordance with NCAA guidelines.

“The health and well-being of our student-athletes remain the highest priority for Mississippi Valley State University,” said Dr. Alecia Shields-Gadson, MVSU director of athletics. “This was not an easy decision to make, but it was a necessary one. The circumstances impacting the health and safety of our student-athletes have reached a point where we cannot confidently continue the season without putting them at undue risk.”
