PEARL, Miss. (VDN)Warren Central bounced back in a big way Friday night, shutting out Pearl 28-0 to secure its first win of the season. The Vikings improved to 1-1 under head coach Josh Morgan.

Quarterback Nash Morgan led the offense with 176 passing yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 105 yards and two more scores. He spread the ball around early, connecting with Blake Caruthers — who finished with 55 receiving yards — and Caleb Lane on short gains before hitting Javid Scott on a 22-yard screen that set up the first score. Moments later, Morgan found Michael Hall for an 11-yard touchdown. Hall totaled 65 receiving yards on the night, and kicker Jonah Artman added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Warren Central’s defense kept Pearl (0-2) in check throughout the first half. Linebacker Landon Green provided tight coverage, and Fabian Davenport and Micah Moore combined for several stops to stall drives. Late in the second quarter, Morgan broke free on a quarterback sneak and sprinted 69 yards for a touchdown, pushing the lead to 14-0 at halftime.

Pearl tried to generate momentum after the break but was turned away when Moore grabbed an interception. In the fourth quarter, Morgan capped another drive with a 26-yard touchdown run behind solid blocking from his offensive line, and running back Fred Mixon sealed the victory with a 10-yard score.

Defensive lineman Kenny Woods recorded a sack in the fourth quarter, and Tristan Jamison picked off a pass in the final minute to preserve the shutout.

The Vikings will host Germantown next Friday.
