Briarfield pulls away in second half to defeat Porter’s Chapel 44-14
LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. (VDN) — Porter’s Chapel Academy stayed within striking distance of defending MAIS Class 1A champion Briarfield Academy through the first half, but the Rebels broke it open after halftime to win 44-14 on Friday night.
Lakelan Pecanty scored on a 47-yard run in the first half to help the Eagles (0-1) trail only 14-6 at the break. Briarfield (1-0) answered with back-to-back touchdowns to start the third quarter, including a touchdown pass and a recovered onside kick that set up another quick score. PCA’s Auston Moore added a 1-yard touchdown run in the second half, but the Rebels responded immediately with a 45-yard scoring run from Jack Woodall to put the game away.
Porter’s Chapel will look to regroup in its home opener Sept. 5 against Wilkinson County Christian.
