Briarfield pulls away in second half to defeat Porter’s Chapel 44-14

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. (VDN)Porter’s Chapel Academy stayed within striking distance of defending MAIS Class 1A champion Briarfield Academy through the first half, but the Rebels broke it open after halftime to win 44-14 on Friday night.

Lakelan Pecanty scored on a 47-yard run in the first half to help the Eagles (0-1) trail only 14-6 at the break. Briarfield (1-0) answered with back-to-back touchdowns to start the third quarter, including a touchdown pass and a recovered onside kick that set up another quick score. PCA’s Auston Moore added a 1-yard touchdown run in the second half, but the Rebels responded immediately with a 45-yard scoring run from Jack Woodall to put the game away.

Porter’s Chapel will look to regroup in its home opener Sept. 5 against Wilkinson County Christian.

  • Lakelan Pecanty: 46 rushing yards, 1 TD; 2 receptions, 7 yards
  • Chad Fuson: 8-of-20 passing, 108 yards
  • Auston Moore: 1 rushing TD; 10 tackles, 1 sack
  • Tommy Nelson: 5 receptions, 71 yards; 9 tackles
  • Carson Hays: 7 tackles, 1 sack
