One trapped in single-vehicle accident on I-20

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A woman was trapped in her vehicle and later airlifted to a hospital after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Vicksburg on Thursday night, authorities said.
Just after 8:15 p.m., a red sedan with Hinds County plates veered off I-20 East just past the Highway 61 exit, struck a tree, and spun around before coming to a stop in the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes. The driver, the only occupant, was unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle due to the impact, Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said.

Units with the Vicksburg Fire Department, including rescue crews, arrived at the scene and used spreaders and cutters—commonly called the Jaws of Life—to free the driver. The Vicksburg Police Department managed traffic until the Mississippi Highway Patrol arrived.
Although traffic slowed during the rescue, the interstate remained open for most of the operation. It was briefly shut down when a wrecker removed the vehicle from the scene.
The driver, whose condition has not been released, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a Jackson-area hospital.
