VPD reports four shootings in three days
The Vicksburg Police Department has released information on four separate shooting events that happened over the Easter Weekend. Although the press release says “three shooting calls” it goes on to report four incidents:
- shooting in a Levee Street parking lot
- shooting into an occupied vehicle
- shooting at Whataburger
- shooting on Farmer
The press release says:
Vicksburg Police Department officers responded to three shooting calls over the Easter weekend. All three cases are currently under investigation, and anyone who may have relevant information is asked to contact the Vicksburg Police Department at 601-636-2511.
On Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 1:35 a.m. Vicksburg Police officers were dispatched to Jacques’, 1320 Levee Street, for a report of shots fired in the club’s parking lot. Once on scene, it was discovered that bullets had struck multiple cars and numerous shell casings were collected. Possible suspect vehicles were seen leaving at a high rate of speed, one of which was pursued into Hinds County before the pursuit was terminated.
At 10:39pm on Saturday, March 30, 2024, officers responded to a call for service of Shooting into Occupied Vehicle on Crawford St. At the scene, contact was made with two victims who said a light colored SUV or truck sped by and fired shots into their vehicle.
On Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 11:27 p.m., police were dispatched to Whataburger, 3402 Halls Ferry Road, in reference to shots being fired and shell casings were located in the parking lot. Shortly thereafter, the intended victims contacted law enforcement from the area of East Clay Street. They stated four black males in a black sedan fired shots that struck their vehicle in the rear bumper. This incident stemmed from a fight at a party in Louisiana.
Monday Morning Shooting Leaves One Wounded.
On Monday, April 1, 2024, at 10:26am officers responded to the 100 block of North Farmer Street for a reported assault. On scene, they found a 42-year-old black male suffering from a wound to his right ear. He identified the 77-year-old suspect, who was soon located and detained. At this time, the victim has declined to prosecute.
The report did not address that marked police units were already on Levee Street adjacent to the parking lot where shots rang out. Chief Jones has verified to the Vicksburg Daily News that no police units were hit. The Chief nor the press release addressed that the shooting happened in the presence of marked VPD units. The video of the shooting shows a semi-automatic weapon firing a large number of shots into the air.
