SCHC to offer Basket-Weaving 101 class

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) – The Southern Cultural Heritage Center (SCHC) will host a Basket Weaving 101 class with instructor Amy Erwin on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. This introductory class invites participants to explore the art of basket weaving, a tradition that dates back over 10,000 years.

In this session, participants will learn the basic techniques of basket weaving using the twining method with round reed. Each participant will create their own serving tray basket, guided step by step by Erwin. While the class is designed for beginners, it is open to basket makers of all skill levels. All materials will be provided.

The basket-weaving class will take place in the SCHC Academy building. The fee is $45 per person or $40 for SCHC members, which includes all necessary supplies.
