Three Seniors Take Over as Captains of the VHS Cheerleading Team
Saniyya Brown, Lauren Flagg, and Kelie Brown have all been named Captains of the Vicksburg High School Cheerleading Team. The trio earned their titles and will now play a heavy role in the upcoming season.
Saniyya Brown:
Brown was introduced to cheerleading by her grandmother at a young age and went on to cheer in Junior High School. She decided to stick with cheer as she now stands as a co-captain.
“The energy on Friday nights is special and I love getting to see the game from a different view,” Bown said. I’m excited to be able to end my senior year with a great title.”
As Co-Captain, Brown is in charge of helping create routines and cheers. After graduation, Saniyya plans to go to college and major in nursing.
Kelie Brown:
Since the eighth grade, Kelie has been cheering in green and has now climbed up the ranks to become Co-Captain.
“I like having the bond with my team and getting the crowd involved at the games,” Kelie said.
Kelie’s responsibilities include helping assist the captain and making sure the other cheerleaders are on point. Over the summer, Kelie was named All-American at the USM Camp, and for the last two years, she has been named the Most Valuable Flyer.
Kelie also attends River City Early College and plans to major in nursing as well.
Lauren Flagg:
Flagg represents VHS as the Head Cheer Captain. The sport has been a part of her life since the eighth grade and she now gets to witness her hard work paying off.
“I like the drive and having good spirits while bonding with my teammates,” Flagg said.
After attending many of her mom’s cheerleading practices in junior high, Flagg decided to try out for the squad the next year, and just a few years later she would be named Captain.
“This was a big goal for myself and I worked very hard for it,” Flagg added.
As Captain, Lauren is responsible for coming up with performances, keeping the team together, and helping improve the team in any way.
During her time as a cheerleader, Lauren was a ninth grade Captain, varsity Co-Captain(2 years), MVP honoree, Most Spirited honoree, and recently named All-American. She also plans to major in mass communications next year.
Saniyya, Kelie, and Flagg are all coached by Aeriel Patten and you can catch them all on the sidelines cheering the Fall.
